The Problem
Design engineers at a large automotive manufacturer wanted to shorten their review cycles in designing accessories and increase collaboration by employing immersive technologies.
The Solution
Using HoloLens, the designers pick and place their designs as individual holograms or overlay on top of a physical object in the real world. By doing this, they could try various attributes such as paint, glossiness, etc., that allowed them to visualize accessories in a life-size form, thus accelerating design decisions. This platform also provided a way to collaborate with their peers who are geographically distributed across different locations and share design specifications interactively.
Discovery
I have conducted feasibility studies on using Hololens as a solution. Studied along with the team and explored various gestures, sounds, and visual attention directors to find the best interactions possible with the device. Explored by placing objects at multiple positions by dividing the space using "Foreground, Middle ground, Background" techniques and identifying ideal distance, the holograms could be experienced and interacted.
Design
Responsible for storyboards and wire-frame creation that enhanced communication across stakeholders and cross-functional teams. Created a curved layout for placing the user interface that enhanced user experience by allowing to interact with UI elements that appears equidistant from the observer. Introduced the concept of “Stage” that allows users to pick a spot in a flat surface for e.g. Floor and place the experience. Led the design team in creating UI elements, 3D Animations of UI, optimization of 3d models and shading.
